Reclamation & Restoration Planning

Abnova Ecological Solutions provides expertise in tailoring custom plans that go beyond satisfying regulatory criteria, towards restoring ecosystem services & functionality, establishing food webs, and creating habitat for pollinators and other wildlife.

Goal Setting

We take desires of stakeholders into account when creating reclamation and restoration plans. Upon understanding stakeholders' wants and regulatory compliance needs, we take into account various environmental and spatial factors to come up with a plan for successful outcomes for the land, water, wildlife and people involved, with budget in mind. We also understand factors which limit reclamation & restoration potential and are able to work towards finding solutions to work within constraints or ways to reduce them.

Soil, Seed, Erosion, and Weed Management Planning

We take an ecosystem approach to reclamation and restoration, understanding soil management practices lay the foundation for successful efforts. After understanding soil and other environmental conditions, we develop custom seed mixes which have high probability of establishing, competing with weeds and preventing erosion. Although we always aim to eliminate erosion and weed issues with initial soil management and seed mix recommendations, we understand the possibility of these issues arising exists and have a plethora of information at hand to provide site specific guidance if need be.

Wildlife & Pollinator Habitat, and Ecosystem Services Planning

While traditional reclamation efforts have often focused on erosion control and limiting weeds, Abnova aims to provide solutions which go beyond this towards restoring functional ecosystems. Abnova's Dr. Mike Curran is the first scientist to examine insect response to reclamation in oil & gas fields within the sagebrush steppe ecosystem. Understanding insects are critical to establishing pollination services (for vegetation reproduction) and lay a foundation for food webs (e.g., primary source of protein for 96% of terrestrial bird species) is just one way Abnova thinks about restoring healthy ecosystems.
