Pollinator and Wildlife Monitoring

Abnova Ecological Solutions is able to provide expert monitoring to determine how insects and other wildlife are responding to reclamation and restoration activities, or for other purposes.  Dr. Curran developed a non-lethal method for counting insects and analyzing behavior utilizing 3-D videography and virtual reality (VR) headsets which can be applied to other animals.  We are also capable of deploying drones for wildlife monitoring and using other techniques as the situation dictates.

Insect Monitoring

Abnova Ecological Solutions realizes different insect collection methods provide different results. Fully aware of biases introduced by various sampling techniques, we're able to select the correct method and choose appropriate time for implementation based on the circumstance. See our publications page for the first work to utilize 3D videography and VR headsets as a non-lethal insect sampling tool.

Wildlife Monitoring

As with insect sampling, Abnova recognizes biases and limitations associated with different wildlife monitoring techniques. Our spatial, statistical and ecological expertise allows us to develop sound sampling designs for the task at hand. We're able to deploy drones, utilize video and still cameras, and provide boots on the ground monitoring to provide the correct solution to each situation.

Behavioral Assessments

Monitoring insects and other wildlife isn't always just about counting, estimating populations, and determining presence or absence of certain species within a given area. Our deep understanding of ecosystem science coupled with our technical skills allows us to study plant-insect interactions, higher trophic level interactions, animal response to disturbance and restoration efforts, and other aspects of animal behavior.
