Conservation Bank Planning, Monitoring & Habitat Assessment, and Reporting

Abnova Ecological Solutions utilizes an ecosystem approach to assess habitat for various wildlife species.  We understand basic and complex ecological concepts and have a strong grasp of environmental policy and regulatory frameworks in place to protect and evaluate habitat for different species.  We are well aware of issues associated with conservation banking, one of them being lack of monitoring and reporting mechanisms to verify habitat quality and suitability.  In 2018, Abnova’s Dr. Curran developed the first ever conservation bank monitoring system to utilize spatially balanced sampling and geo-tagged imagery to assess conservation bank potential for the Greater sage-grouse.  Together with Environmental Field Technician Services, he implemented his design, and afterwards he developed a spatially-explicit reporting system for easy interpretation of habitat quality over a 66 square mile area.

Conservation Bank Planning

Abnova Ecological Solutions understands that conservation banks must be profitable for the 'banker' and beneficial for the developer interested in purchasing conservation credits. Most important, a conservation bank has to provide quality habitat for species of concern. We are able to work with landowners to maximize value of their bank area for a number of species.

Conservation Bank Monitoring & Habitat Assessment

Conservation banking has been scrutinized for lack of environmental monitoring efforts and transparency in data sharing to quantify habitat quality within banking areas. We've developed rapid, statistically valid techniques to assess habitat quality. We have a firm grasp of environmental policy and existing habitat assessment frameworks to ensure our efforts are in line with any compliance requirements.

Conservation Bank Reporting

Rapid field monitoring techniques reduce time and cost, but are also necessary to capture data within short phenology windows or during important environmental periods. The time and costs saved with field data collection go out the window if time taken for report generation makes data irrelevant or if data collected are uninterpretable or not useful to inform decision making. We're able to generate reports rapidly, using spatial dashboard systems which are easy to interpret and improve decision management.
